Antonio Citterio designed the BAIA for B&B Italia in 1977, working within the era's growing appetite for modular systems that could adapt to a room rather than dictate to it. The design favors clean, squared-off volumes over ornament — a quieter kind of Italian modernism, built for flexibility as much as looks.
This four-module example has been newly upholstered in a warm brown JB Martin velvet, the fabric's depth giving the sofa's straightforward geometry a bit of richness and weight.
